Zaira Simone-Thompson

An educator and follower of the Geographic
I am an assistant professor in African American Studies at Wesleyan University and co-coordinator of both the Caribbean Studies Minor and the Africana Studies Colloqium Series. As a geographer, my research and teaching centers on contemporary experiences and representations of slavery, colonialism and uneven development in the Caribbean. My past work has examined the symbolic and material forces of reparative claims in Barbados—a small but politically large landscape. My current book project explores the multiplicity of Afro-Caribbean and Indo-Caribbean visions of recovery, grief, and justice relating to the geographic realities of chattel slavery, indentureship and colonialism.
